‘Wear and Tear’ plywood composite material, 2022

Aiming to celebrate the natural wear and tear of everyday wooden furniture as well as enabling the user to take an active part in the deterioration process, this bespoke material aims to make the product evolve instead of deteriorate during its lifetime.

Wooden household furniture is at the centre of everyday life, until marks across its surfaces build up and lead to the discarding of these pieces. This material has been developed to celebrate that inevitable deterioration: marks across this ‘Wear and Tear Ply’ reveal playful colours that highlight the accidental or purposeful erosion of its surface. It enables a sentimental attachment; the marks will represent a lifetime of quotidian moments creating a unique tapestry of memories.
